Phoenix IP Team Sends IP/Patent Case to Singapore
Several Singaporean corporations and individualsFebruary 14, 2005
Steptoe’s Phoenix office scored a victory for international business when the Arizona Court of Appeals affirmed the dismissal under the doctrine of forum non conveniens of a suit against several Singaporean corporations and individuals.
The Arizona plaintiffs alleged that the Singaporean defendants had fraudulently induced an Arizona resident to assign semiconductor related patent rights to a Singaporean corporation.
The court concluded that the parties’ business relationship was centered in Singapore and that the High Court of Singapore offered a satisfactory forum for resolving the intellectual property dispute and was better suited to apply Singaporean law.
