MCI
February 3, 2006

After close scrutiny, the US Department of Justice (DOJ) cleared the $8 billion merger of MCI, Inc., and Verizon Communications, Inc.  Steptoe served as MCI’s chief antitrust counsel, advising MCI on review by the European Commission, as well as review by the Federal Communications Commission, and two dozen state public utility commissions.  After obtaining all necessary approvals, the merger closed in January 2006.

MCI is the second-largest US long-distance company.
