Steptoe Wins in DC Circuit Court for ABA

American Bar Association
December 4, 2005

Steptoe successfully represented the American Bar Association (ABA) in an important DC Circuit Court victory.  In its decision, the Court of Appeals ruled that the nation’s 750,000 practicing lawyers are not covered by the privacy and information-sharing requirements of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act of 1999, as applied by the Federal Trade Commission.  This case has significant implications for federal regulation in areas traditionally consigned to the individual states of the United States.

The ABA has more than 400,000 members and provides various resources to lawyers, such as continuing legal education and programs on current legal issues.
