Steptoe Obtains Summary Judgment for Increased Insurance Coverage

In G.E. Tignall & Co., we successfully obtained summary judgment on behalf of our client against a claim for additional insured coverage by a general contractor for lead paint exposures during a school renovation. In ruling in our client's favor, the court held that a certificate of insurance could not change the coverage afforded by our client’s policy, that the policy provided additional insured coverage only for the general contractor’s vicarious liability, and that the underlying tort complaint sought to hold the general contractor liable only for its own tortious conduct.  After initially noticing an appeal, the general contractor voluntarily abandoned its claim.
