Customs & Import Compliance Contract Attorney or Specialist
Steptoe & Johnson LLP seeks a Customs and Import Compliance Contract Attorney or Specialist for our international trade practice.  The firm prefers candidates with a JD and/or prior experience with US Customs and Border Protection and import/export compliance issues and procedures.  Non-attorney candidates should have a college degree and significant prior experience (1) with US Customs and Border Protection; (2) with a customs broker firm; (3) as a law firm paralegal with significant responsibility for import/export regulatory compliance issues; or (4) in an internal corporate import/export compliance office.  Candidates should have excellent academic credentials, and strong writing and analytical skills.  Principals only.

Senior Pesticide Regulatory and Policy Analyst/Consultant (non-legal)
Steptoe & Johnson LLP seeks a Senior Pesticide Regulatory and Policy Analyst/Consultant.  This non-legal position in Steptoe’s robust pesticide regulatory and policy consulting practice involves working both independently and collaboratively with team members in Washington, DC, and others outside the US on issues related to US pesticides.  It provides a unique opportunity to interact on multiple levels with a wide range of clients and stakeholders, including individual registrants, industry task forces, industry trade groups and US/EPA/OP to provide strategic and detailed assessments of technical, regulatory and policy issues and to develop and implement resolutions.  Issues include those of broad applicability to the pesticide industry as well as those specific to individual clients and industry segments.  Resolution development requires a detailed understanding of issues, background, and implications, with opportunities to be part of cutting-edge solutions and novel approaches. 

Candidates should have a minimum of eight years of high-level pesticide regulatory experience and an excellent understanding of federal regulatory and legislative processes; strong analytical and writing skills; including the ability to  analyze complex policy, technical and regulatory situations; the ability to identify and understand implications of issues at an early stage and to communicate the information to the firm’s clients and to the broader industry; the ability to provide detailed and documented support and analysis of issues and solutions; and the ability to explain complex issues and produce professional quality written analyses and comments.  A technical or scientific background in a discipline related to pesticides is helpful but not mandatory.  A M.A. and/or Ph.D in a scientific discipline will be viewed favorably.  Salary commensurate with experience.  Principals Only.

Corporate Associate
The DC office of Steptoe & Johnson LLP seeks an associate with a minimum of three years transactional experience in the corporate/securities area with an emphasis on M&A, securities, and finance. Principals only.

Intellectual Property Associates
Steptoe is seeking associates for its rapidly growing Intellectual Property practice. Openings are in the Chicago and DC offices. Candidates should have a minimum of four years of experience in patent litigation and solid technical backgrounds in the fields of chemistry, biotechnology, electrical engineering, computer science, or related fields. Principals only.

DC Lateral Telecom Position
Junior to mid-level attorney for our telecommunications practice which is focused on satellite, Internet, wireless and international matters.  Duties to include legal research, writing, and counseling of clients on legal, commercial and technology  matters, electronic commerce and the telecom industry; merger approval; satellite licensing and regulation; net neutrality; the statutory satellite copyright licenses; programming disputes; terrestrial spectrum licensing; electronic surveillance law; privacy and data protection.  Minimum requirements:  J.D. or equivalent, D.C. bar or membership eligibility, and 1 to 3 years of telecommunications legal experience with an agency or law firm.  Principals only - apply directly with resume and transcript.

Antitrust, Competition Lawyers (1 to 5 years of relevant experience)
Our Brussels office seeks lawyers (Associate position) to support its growing Antitrust and Competition practice.

We seek candidates with strong academic credentials, a Master degree in laws (preferably covering EU or US Competition/Antitrust law) and/or relevant experience in UK/US law firm. The successful candidates will be good team-players who can also work independently when required. In addition to client projects, our lawyers are expected to actively participate in marketing and business development initiatives.

You should be able to express yourself clearly in English (both written and orally). Fluency in other languages would be an advantage. 

Compensation will be commensurate with the successful candidates’ experience. All offers are subject to a 6 month trial period.

Trainee Lawyer to Support our Financial Services / Insurance Practice Group
Our busy Brussels office seeks Trainees who understand the EU financial services legal framework. Exposure to financial services operators will be welcome. Candidates must hold an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in law. Those also holding a Bar qualification will be given priority. Positions are offered for 6 months, with the possibility of an extension thereafter for exceptional candidates.

Candidates must be good team-players who can also work independently when required. In addition to client projects, the work includes participation in marketing and business development initiatives.

The successful candidates will be fluent in English. Fluency in other languages would be an advantage.

Trainee Lawyers / Paralegals
