Trademark and Internet Attorney
Steptoe, an AmLaw 100 firm with a strong intellectual property and technology practice, is seeking a highly motivated trademark and Internet attorney to work full-time in our DC office. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of US and foreign trademark counseling, searching, prosecution, enforcement (including TTAB proceedings), as well as significant experience with online brand enforcement efforts, including URDP’s and its equivalent in non-US jurisdictions.   Ideal candidate will also have experience with ICANN and related Internet Governance work, including familiarity with the new gTLD program.  Candidate must be a self-starter and demonstrate a high level of initiative.   Excellent research and writing skills, strong academic credentials, and superior analytical, interpersonal and communication skills are also desired.  Principals only.

Regulatory Associate
For more than three decades, Steptoe has been one of the nation’s leading firms in the field of pipeline regulation.  We have represented many of the largest crude oil and refined petroleum products pipeline systems in the United States and Canada, and have handled a number of ground-breaking proceedings in this increasingly visible area of law.  We are currently looking for an associate with at least 3 years of experience to join our pipeline regulation practice.  Must have outstanding credentials and excellent research and writing skills.  FERC experience is a plus.  Principals only.

Toxicologist (non-legal)
Steptoe seeks a toxicologist.  This non-legal position is in the firm’s robust regulatory and policy consulting practice and involves working both independently and collaboratively with team members in Washington, DC, and others outside the U.S.

Candidates should have a minimum of three years of toxicology experience and an understanding of laws and regulations administered by the Food and Drug Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency (especially EPA regulation of antimicrobials and other pesticides).  Knowledge and experience with either FDA or EPA regulation, combined with a demonstrated ability to apply toxicology to new regulatory areas, will be considered.  Experience with the design and interpretation of in vitro and in vivo toxicology studies and the conduct and application of structure/activity relationship analysis and computational toxicology are important factors.  Strong analytical and writing skills are a must.  Also required is the ability to analyze complex policy, technical and regulatory situations, to identify and understand implications of issues at an early stage and to communicate the information to the firm’s clients and to the broader industry.

A technical or scientific graduate degree in toxicology or a discipline related to toxicology is required.  A Ph.D. in toxicology or a related discipline is desirable.  Salary commensurate with scientific credentials and experience.  Principals Only.

Senior Pesticide Regulatory and Policy Analyst/Consultant (non-legal)
Steptoe & Johnson LLP seeks a Senior Pesticide Regulatory and Policy Analyst/Consultant.  This non-legal position in Steptoe’s robust pesticide regulatory and policy consulting practice involves working both independently and collaboratively with team members in Washington, DC, and others outside the US on issues related to US pesticides.  It provides a unique opportunity to interact on multiple levels with a wide range of clients and stakeholders, including individual registrants, industry task forces, industry trade groups and US/EPA/OP to provide strategic and detailed assessments of technical, regulatory and policy issues and to develop and implement resolutions.  Issues include those of broad applicability to the pesticide industry as well as those specific to individual clients and industry segments.  Resolution development requires a detailed understanding of issues, background, and implications, with opportunities to be part of cutting-edge solutions and novel approaches. 

Candidates should have a minimum of eight years of high-level pesticide regulatory experience and an excellent understanding of federal regulatory and legislative processes; strong analytical and writing skills; including the ability to  analyze complex policy, technical and regulatory situations; the ability to identify and understand implications of issues at an early stage and to communicate the information to the firm’s clients and to the broader industry; the ability to provide detailed and documented support and analysis of issues and solutions; and the ability to explain complex issues and produce professional quality written analyses and comments.  A technical or scientific background in a discipline related to pesticides is helpful but not mandatory.  A M.A. and/or Ph.D in a scientific discipline will be viewed favorably.  Salary commensurate with experience.  Principals Only.
