Overview
CNS News quoted Shannen Coffin in a May 26 article titled “Judge Rebukes DOJ Lawyers For Being ‘Intentionally Deceptive’ in Amnesty Case.” The article discusses US District Judge Andrew Hanen’s reprimand of Department of Justice attorneys for allegedly being “intentionally deceptive” during a controversial amnesty case heard in his Brownsville, Texas courtroom. “Counsel’s conduct in this case was not only unethical, but a failure to comply with federal law,” Judge Hanen stated.
Mr. Coffin, a former deputy assistant attorney general, says: “It’s a very serious violation, if it is as [Hanen] finds it. You’ll see a judge get a bee in his bonnet every now and then, and a judge does have pretty broad authority to control the lawyers in front of him.”
