Overview
Steptoe’s Transportation Group has been named a Law360 Transportation Group of the Year. In a profile published February 16, the editors highlight some of the group’s successes over the past year including winning dismissal of a putative class action alleging airlines had conspired to charge passengers a tourism tax.
For more than 50 years, Steptoe has served Japan Airlines advising on regulatory matters in the United States. The firm also serves as the principal outside counsel for airline TAP Portugal regarding US Department of Transportation and Federal Aviation Administration regulatory matters, and in the past year oversaw the launch of two new US gateways for its client. In addition, the firm has represented Southwest Airlines in ongoing litigation against Delta Air Lines regarding its Love Field lease. Meanwhile, Steptoe is representing Union Pacific Railroad in an ongoing putative class action lawsuit stemming from the June 2008 flood of the Cedar River in Iowa, which is currently on appeal before the Supreme Court of Iowa.
Practice group leader Linda Stein tells Law360 that part of what distinguishes Steptoe's transportation practice is its diversity and breadth, noting its attorneys represent clients in matters involving myriad areas — aviation, rail and surface transportation, as well as policy in transportation and infrastructure, and unmanned aircraft.
