Epstein Nominated to Top Post

The DC Bar Nominations Committee has selected Anthony C. Epstein, a partner at Steptoe & Johnson LLP and James J. Sandman, managing partner of Arnold & Porter LLP, as candidates for the office of DC Bar president-elect for the 2005-2006 term. The president-elect serves for one year before becoming president, and continues in office a third year as immediate past president.

Mr. Epstein has acquired experience in several practice areas, including general litigation, telecommunications, and antitrust litigation. The current chair of the DC Court of Appeals Committee on Unauthorized Practice of Law, Mr. Epstein began his career as a clerk for the Honorable Charles B. Renfrew, US district judge for the Northern District of California. He worked for the Department of Justice from 1978 to 1981, first as an attorney in the Antitrust Division, next as a special assistant to the deputy attorney general, and then as special assistant US attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia. After leaving the government he worked for Leva, Hawes, Symington, Martin & Oppenheimer and Jenner & Block LLP before coming to Steptoe in 1999.

Epstein is the vice chair of the DC Bar Rules of Professional Conduct Review Committee and has written articles on telecommunications and ethics, among other topics. He is a graduate of Yale Law School and of Yale College.
