Sanctions' Impact on Reconstruction

February 3, 2005

Andrew Irwin of our government contracts and export control/regulatory compliance practices has written an article in Engineering News Record entitled "Sanctions: Rebuilding Firms are Obeying the Rules."

Dealing with sanctions is a practical reality of reconstruction contracting, as the regulatory environment vis-à-vis many countries in the Middle East and Central Asia continues to evolve, e.g., the recent lifting of sanctions against Libya, the imposition of new sanctions against Syria, and continued attention regarding Iran.

The article sets forth a thumbnail sketch of the difficult regulatory environment that contractors have had to navigate while working on reconstruction projects in Iraq and Afghanistan.
