Pro Bono Presence in Ukraine

Steptoe's pro bono service was highlighted in the January 3, 2005, issue of Legal Times, which featured the recent Ukrainian presidential election and emphasized Steptoe attorney David Lorello, who served as one of the more than 12,000 international monitors who went to Ukraine to oversee its presidential election and the revote.

Lorello and French businessman Christian Carrer witnessed electoral fraud in the November 21 run-off election. Their written report of the highly organized absentee vote fraud was utilized by the legal team of Presidential candidate Victor Yushenko in its successful appeal to the Ukraine Supreme Court.  The Supreme Court invalidated the November 21 election results and ordered a revote, which took place on December 26 and which Mr. Yushenko won.
