Drimmer on Bounty Hunters
November 29, 2004On November 25, 2004, Jonathan Drimmer of the Litigation practice was featured on CBC radio show, “Ottawa Morning,” with Anthony Germain, the city’s leading news and current affairs program.
Mr. Drimmer explained the laws in the United States regarding "private fugitive recapture" or the rights of bail bondsmen and bounty hunters to arrest bail jumpers.
He also addressed the law in Canada, how other cases have been handled, and some of the problems that have existed over the years.
Canada has a 16-year-old memorandum of understanding with the United States that allows it to extradite "so-called bounty hunters" who abduct suspects in Canada.
