Overview
Beijing partner Susan Munro is quoted in a Main Justice article titled “China Launches ‘Operation Sky Net’ to Snare Corrupt Fugitives.” The article, published on April 13, discusses the Chinese government’s outreach for increased cooperation with US and other law enforcement authorities abroad to hunt down fugitive officials suspected of corruption.
Operation Sky Net, China’s new campaign, will focus on repatriating officials who fled the country in the wake of the government’s ongoing crackdown on corruption. Last year, as many as 680 fugitives suspected of “economic crimes” were repatriated in a similar effort called Operation Fox Hunt.
Ms. Munro says, “The Chinese government was fairly successful with Operation Fox Hunt in persuading people to come back to China voluntarily to face corruption charges.”
