Overview
Law360 has named Roger Warin a 2015 MVP in Insurance. The Law360 MVP series profiles lawyers with “successes in high-stakes litigation, record-breaking deals, and complex global matters” over the past year. The legal publication received more than 850 nominations for this year’s series and selected MVPs in 31 practice areas. Mr. Warin was one of only seven lawyers selected in the Insurance category.
In a profile published November 17, the editors write that Mr. Warin “founded the firm’s insurance practice and has remained its linchpin, parachuting in to complex appeals and securing several major wins for AIG, Travelers and others over the past year.” That string of victories began on New Year’s Eve 2014 when Mr. Warin rescued an AIG Inc. unit from $2.4 million in discovery sanctions handed down by a North Carolina judge in a suit accusing the insurer of denying coverage in bad faith to a truck driver injured in a collision. A state appellate judge vacated the sanctions, clearing a path to a favorable settlement in pretrial mediation early in 2015.
The profile also highlights a New York state appellate victory Mr. Warin secured for Travelers in a suit over cleanup costs at several manufactured gas sites, as well as two major decisions for AIG units in federal circuit courts in quick succession in May.
“I am blessed by having some really stunningly good colleagues,” Mr. Warin says.
