Overview
Law360 has named Reid Weingarten a 2015 MVP in White-Collar. The Law360 MVP series profiles lawyers with “successes in high-stakes litigation, record-breaking deals, and complex global matters” over the past year. The legal publication received more than 850 nominations for this year’s series and selected MVPs in 31 practice areas. Mr. Weingarten was one of only eight lawyers selected in the white-collar category.
In a profile published November 30, the editors highlight Mr. Weingarten’s streak of high-profile courtroom victories which continued in 2015 when Mr. Weingarten helped convince a New Orleans jury to exonerate the highest-ranking BP PLC executive criminally charged in the wake of the 2010 Deepwater Horizon disaster.
Mr. Weingarten tells Law360, “It was a complete blowout and the case should never have been brought.”
However, in defending the executive, Mr. Weingarten says he and his legal team made a number of decisions that proved to only solidify their win. One was to ignore the advice of jury consultants.
“We ignored all the advice and got a completely satisfactory verdict,” he says.
