Overview
(May 18, 2016, Los Angeles) — Steptoe’s Jennifer Bonneville has been named to the Daily Journal’s list of the “Top 40 Lawyers Under 40” in California for 2016. The annual list recognizes outstanding lawyers in the state under the age of 40.
Ms. Bonneville, of counsel in Steptoe’s Los Angeles office, was recognized for her work in mass tort litigation defense. She works with energy companies, manufacturers of specialty consumer and automotive products, industrial and commodity chemicals, pesticides, and medical devices, to defend a diverse array of product and premise based suits in cases involving wrongful death, property damage, personal injury and medical monitoring claims.
In a profile published May 18, the editors write that Ms. Bonneville “regularly represents unpopular defendants such as major energy, petrochemical and agricultural chemical companies as they confront sympathetic plaintiffs’ cases involving cancer, birth defects and drinking water contamination.”
In particular, the editors highlight Ms. Bonneville’s successful representation of the manufacturer of an automotive aerosol solvent in a toxic tort wrongful death case. In briefing and arguing three Daubert motions to exclude the plaintiffs’ expert witness, Ms. Bonneville showed that the expert was solely relying on scientific studies that supported the plaintiffs’ position while omitting studies that did not.
In addition to her client work, Ms. Bonneville maintains an active pro bono practice, assisting the most vulnerable members of society including children, Holocaust survivors, and victims of domestic violence. Since 2013, she has worked with the Alliance for Children’s Rights assisting prospective parents with the adoption process and representing their interests in court.
For the past seven years, she has devoted numerous hours to the Los Angeles County Bar Association’s Domestic Violence Legal Services Project, helping victims of domestic violence and elder abuse in obtaining temporary restraining orders. For her work with that project, Ms. Bonneville was recognized as a Los Angeles County “Volunteer of the Year” in 2014. Five times since 2010, she has been recognized by Southern California Super Lawyers as a “Rising Star.”
