Overview
The expansion of Steptoe’s blockchain team into a multidisciplinary practice has received broad media coverage, including two articles in Forbes. On August 9, Steptoe announced the expansion of its industry-leading blockchain practice into a full-fledged, multidisciplinary practice designed to help clients in all industries learn more about and prepare for the application of the “blockchain,” and distributed ledger technology more generally, to their businesses. This expanded practice is led by the well-known blockchain and fintech team of Jason Weinstein and Alan Cohn, who are working with professionals from across Steptoe’s practice groups in industries that are or could be applying this important technology to improve their operations.
The expansion of Steptoe’s team was first announced in a Forbes article titled “As Bitcoin Technology Makes Inroads, One Law Firm Launches Multidisciplinary Blockchain Practice.” In her article, reporter Laura Shin writes: “Steptoe is building on its experience over the past couple years advising investors, entrepreneurs, startups, exchanges, transaction processors and retailers in the blockchain and cryptocurrency space. The firm, which is currently representing companies in investigations by DOJ and the Commodities Futures Trading Commission, is also an advisor to two of the industry’s most active advocacy groups, the Chamber of Digital Commerce and Coin Center.”
In addition, Ms. Shin interviewed Messrs. Weinstein and Cohn in her podcast “Unchained,” which focuses on blockchain and fintech. Show notes can be read in a separate article titled “How the Blockchain Alliance Helps Law Enforcement With Bitcoin Crime and Developments Like the DAO,” and the podcast can be found on Google Play, iTunes, Stitcher, TuneIn Radio as well as online.
