Overview
Law360 quoted Pantelis Michalopoulos in a December 13 article titled “Top Telecom Policy Developments of 2016: Year in Review.”
Mr. Michalopoulos says the DC Circuit's decision to uphold the Open Internet Order and the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) action in the spectrum frontiers proceeding were among the top developments this year for telecom. With respect to the spectrum frontiers action, he says: “It was very important for the United States to take a leadership role and jumpstart the process, and that’s what was done with the spectrum frontiers proceeding.”
Looking ahead, despite some changes that could be coming under a GOP-led FCC, Mr. Michalopoulos expects much to remain the same including at least some elements of the Open Internet Order.
“That’s how I would rate this year,” Mr. Michalopoulos tells Law360, citing "You Can't Always Get What You Want" by the Rolling Stones. “There was a very ambitious agenda. Not all of it was accomplished, but there was enough accomplished to justify the line that you sometimes do get what you need," he says.
