Media Quote Rob Kovacev on Leak of Trump’s 2005 Taxes

March 16, 2017

Steptoe partner Rob Kovacev was quoted by several media outlets on March 15 following the leak of a portion of President Trump’s 2005 joint tax return to a New York Times reporter who shared the document with MSNBC.  The two-page copy of the tax return shows that the president paid $38 million in taxes and made about $150 million dollars.

Mr. Kovacev, who previously served as senior litigation counsel in the Department of Justice’s Tax Division, says:  “Hard to believe someone risked prison time to release two pages of Trump’s 1040.  A 24% tax rate for a real estate mogul is reasonable and there’s no evidence of anything improper or unusual. Trump is required to pay what he is legally required and not a penny more.”
