Overview
(April 4, 2017, Washington, DC) — For the second time, Steptoe partner Jennifer Quinn-Barabanov has been named a recipient of a Burton Award for distinguished law firm writing. Ms. Quinn-Barabanov’s article was one of only 25 selected from entries submitted by the nation's 1,000 largest law firms.
Ms. Quinn-Barabanov, who leads Steptoe’s class action practice, is being recognized for her article in For The Defense titled “The Supreme Court’s 2015-2016 Term Marks a Turning Point for Class Actions.” In the September 2016 article, Ms. Quinn-Barabanov discusses the court’s intense attention on class actions in the 2015-2016 term, and how lower courts have begun applying the recent rulings with surprisingly divergent results.
The Burton Awards, established in 1999, is funded by the Burton Foundation, a non-profit, academic effort devoted to recognizing and rewarding excellence in the legal profession. The Burton Awards honors the finest accomplishments in law, including writing, reform, public service and interest, regulatory innovation, and lifetime achievements in the profession. Run in association with the Library of Congress, the Burton Awards are being presented this year by lead sponsor Law360 and co-sponsor the American Bar Association.
An awards ceremony honoring the authors will take place on May 22 at the Library of Congress, where US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg will accept the Book of the Year in Law Award.
Ms. Quinn-Barabanov also received the Burton Award in 2012. Steptoe lawyers Jeffrey Weiner and Chuck Cole won the Burton Award in 2011 and 2000, respectively. In 2007, the firm accepted a Record of Distinction Award in recognition of Steptoe's place among the very small number of firms that have won the award three or more times.
