Overview
Law360 quoted Marc Spitzer in an article titled “FERC Order Put Grid Projects on Table, if Not in Ground.” The article, published June 26, discusses why the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's (FERC) landmark regional transmission planning rule hasn't resulted in the significant development of electricity transmission envisioned when the order was enacted nearly six years ago. Former FERC officials say it's still been useful in forcing the electricity industry to think more broadly about the future of the US grid.
Mr. Spitzer, who voted to approve Order No. 1000 while serving as FERC commissioner from 2006 to 2011, says: “Obviously, one thing I thought it would do is help put steel in the ground. There hasn't been as much steel in the ground as I would like, even with the decline in electricity demand.”
