New York Office Trial Victory
June 19, 2007Steptoe & Johnson LLP won a tremendous defense verdict on Tuesday, June 12th, in a 5-day jury trial in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York before Judge Brient on behalf of Hyundai Mobis (Korea) and A.F.I. (China), manufacturers of automobile oil filters. The 8-person jury took less than two hours (including a lunch break) to return its verdict rejecting all of plaintiff's claims. The jury also awarded our clients $2.15 million on their counterclaim, which is the total amount of damages they were seeking. The team was lead by John D. Lovi who was assisted by Lara Romansic and paralegal Robert Ajiashvili.
The case involved a claim for over $20 million in damages (reduced to $6.5 million before trial) by Globe Motorists Supply Co., Inc. (New York) for breach of contract and warranty regarding allegedly defective oil filters manufactured by the defendants. Our counterclaim sought $1.9 million in unpaid goods plus pre-judgment interest.
