Steptoe's Arizona Office Continues Diversity Initiative

(July 23, 2007, Phoenix, AZ) --  The Phoenix office of Steptoe & Johnson, LLP, a top- ranked international law firm, has announced its 2007 competition to assist diverse college seniors interested in pursuing a legal career by providing either an LSAT prep course or a package of admission supports to law school.  This is the second year the firm has offered this opportunity to budding lawyers.

Three applicants will receive a fully paid Kaplan LSAT prep course, and two will receive an admissions counseling package.  The 14-session LSAT prep course is valued at $1,249; the admissions counseling package is valued at $599.

“Steptoe & Johnson believes it is important to increase the diversity in the legal profession to better reflect, and address the concerns of our community,” said Fred Bellamy, partner in Steptoe’s Phoenix office who is involved in choosing the winning essays.  “These resources will help level the playing field for diverse applicants who otherwise might not have access to the supports enjoyed by their peers.”

Competition for the awards requires completion of an application form and submission of a 500-word essay on how the applicant’s attending law school will improve diversity in the legal profession.  Applications must be received by September 7, 2007.
