Environmental Liability Risks Highlighted by Darren Abrahams
March 23, 2006Brussels-based barrister, Darren Abrahams, addressed the European Crop Protection Association's recent conference on legislation facing the pesticides sector. His presentation examined the Environmental Liability Directive, which is due to come into force in all 25 EU Member States on April 30, 2007.
The Directive creates new duties of prevention and remediation of environmental damage. It covers pesticides, biocides, dangerous substances and preparations, genetically modified organisms and a wide range of industrial operations, applying strict (no fault or negligence) liability.
Mr. Abrahams' practice is focused on EU law, with a particular emphasis on regulatory requirements and related commercial issues in the fields of environment and life sciences. He is a recommended practitioner in the 2005/06 Life Sciences Industry Report, an independent survey of leading multi-national companies approved counsel.
