Alice A. Kipel to Chair US Court of International Trade Advisory Committee
March 3, 2008Alice A. Kipel, a Partner in the International Trade and Intellectual Property practices at Steptoe & Johnson LLP, has been appointed to a five-year term as Chair of the Advisory Committee to the US Court of International Trade.
The Advisory Committee is statutorily authorized to make recommendations to the court regarding rulemaking and other procedural matters. The Advisory Committee assists in ensuring that the court's rules of practice and procedure adapt to changes in the law and the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure.
“What an honor to be appointed to chair the committee. I consider it a privilege to help guide the practice and procedures of this court,” said Ms. Kipel.
Ms. Kipel has served on the Advisory Committee since 1993 and will replace William D. Outman, who chaired the committee for 10 years. The Advisory Committee is composed of private practitioners and government attorneys who practice regularly in front of the Court of International Trade; appointments to the committee are made by the Chief Judge of the court, currently, the Honorable Jane A. Restani.
Ms. Kipel’s practice focuses on helping companies involved in international trade. She specializes in investigations of unfair import practices and antidumping and countervailing duty investigations. Throughout her career, she has appeared in a significant number of judicial review proceedings before the US Court of International Trade and the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
