Judge Encourages Settlement of Sweeps Case.” A federal judge recently encouraged lawyers to explore settling a lawsuit alleging that Maricopa County Sheriff’s deputies racially profiled Latinos in immigration sweeps. Since the lawsuit isn’t seeking monetary damages, the judge suggested attorneys may want to consider if adjustments in the sheriff’s policies would help conclude the case.
