J. Bennett Johnston Receives the National Parks Conservation Association Centennial Leadership AwardMarch 24, 2010
Former Senator J. Bennett Johnston will receive the National Parks Conservation Association Centennial Leadership Award at the annual Salute to the Parks: Protecting America’s Heritage gala on Wednesday evening, March 24, 2010, in Washington, DC.
The Centennial Leadership Award honors a public official or private citizen who has made an outstanding contribution toward ensuring that the national parks are ready and well prepared for their second century of service to the American people. Johnston and former Senator Howard H. Baker, Jr., co–chaired the National Parks Second Century Commission, a year–long comprehensive examination of the state of the National Park System today and a vision for the future.
In addition to Senators Johnston and Baker, Senator Jeff Bingaman and filmmakers Ken Burns and Dayton Duncan, in recognition of their documentary, The National Parks: America’s Best Idea, will also be honored at this evening’s gala.
