ACUS Appoints Betty Jo Christian as Senior Fellow

October 14, 2010

The Administrative Conference of the United States (ACUS) appointed Betty Jo Christian as Senior Fellow. The ACUS is an independent federal agency dedicated to improving the administrative process through consensus-driven applied research, providing nonpartisan expert advice and recommendations for improvement of federal agency procedures. Its membership is composed of innovative federal officials and experts with diverse views and backgrounds from both the private sector and academia.

The Conference is committed to promoting effective public participation and efficiency in the rulemaking process by leveraging interactive technologies and encouraging open communication with the public as well as making improvements to the regulatory process by reducing unnecessary litigation, and improving the use of science and the effectiveness of applicable laws.

In order to serve as a Senior Fellow, an individual must either have been a former chairman of the conference or had previously served the maximum three terms as ACUS member. Among this distinguished group is Antonin Scalia, Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court, who is a former Chairman of the Administrative Conference.

Together with the conference membership and other fellows, Ms. Christian will address myriad issues related to the federal administrative and regulatory landscape. These include the Administration’s transparency and openness initiatives, which provide opportunities for data collection and dissemination that can reduce costs and involve the public in the creation of regulatory solutions.
