James Hibey Joins Steptoe’s Commercial Litigation GroupMarch 23, 2011
(March 23, 2011, Washington, DC) — Steptoe & Johnson LLP announced today that James Hibey has joined the firm as a partner in the Commercial Litigation Group. He will be resident in the firm’s Washington, DC office. Mr. Hibey is former federal prosecutor with more than 25 years of experience in private practice and more than 120 trials in his career. His broad litigation practice covers a variety of areas, including antitrust and state franchise law claims, intellectual property, trade secret, RICO, qui tam, lender liability, attorney liability, bankruptcy proceedings and constitutional law claims.
Mr. Hibey has significant experience representing corporations and individuals in grand jury proceedings and white collar criminal matters involving fraud, federal elections laws, espionage and security matters, criminal tax law, environmental law, and violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and the False Claims Act. He has handled internal investigations for companies in response to government inquiries and whistleblower claims. In addition, he has represented various government contractors in connection with allegations of fraud, waste, and abuse.

Mr. Hibey joins Steptoe from Howrey, where he was a member of the firm’s Commercial Trial practice and co-chair of the Securities Litigation, Government Enforcement and White Collar Crime practice group. Prior to entering private practice, he was a prosecutor for five years in the DC U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Mr. Hibey holds a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and a B.S. from the University of Notre Dame.
