Labor Relations Panel

(A Steptoe-Sponsored Event)
April 2, 2004

On April 2, 2004, the Phoenix office of Steptoe & Johnson LLP and the Arizona Society for Human Resource Management are co-sponsoring “Changing Times and Tactics: Labor Relations in the 21st Century,” featuring a panel of attorneys who regularly defend corporations against union organizers.

Appearing on the panel are Steptoe attorneys Larry Katz, Monica Goebel, Mark Kisicki, and Steve Wheeless, who represent employers in all aspects of practice under the National Labor Relations Act, including union avoidance, union elections and NLRB proceedings.  They also negotiate collective bargaining agreements and arbitrate grievances under those agreements.

During lunch, Kirk Williams will discuss the UFCW’s campaign against Wal-Mart and how he successfully fended off organizing efforts.  Other speakers include Fred Bocker, state director for the Arizona SHRM State Council, and Catharine Ellingsen, Managing Corporate Counsel for Allied Waste Industries, Inc.
