Conference on Trade and Terrorism

January 30, 2004

Steptoe and Johnson Partner Iain MacVay is co-chairing the World Trade Law Association’s 7th Annual Conference on "Trade & Terrorism: The Impact of Security Initiatives on International Trade."

New regulatory regimes addressing the movement of goods and people are substantially affecting the economy and exacerbating existing barriers to trade.

Maury Shenk, Managing Partner of the London Office, will speak on export and customs controls; other speakers will address the following:

  • Post-Cancun trade negotiations;
  • dispute resolution (since the peace clause on agricultural disputes expires shortly and many cases are being prepared to challenge both EU and US agricultural policies); and
  • new security regimes and protocols’ effects on international trade (moving goods, using the container security initiative, understanding export controls and following new restrictions on movement of people, including new visa requirements and new controls on US and EU work permits).
The conference is being held 30 January 2004, at the Barber Surgeons Hall, in London.
