Ambiguous Aspects of Comprehensive Iran Sanctions Law

July 16, 2010

On July 16, Meredith Rathbone and Dan Chapman of Parker Drilling presented new and ambiguous aspects of the Comprehensive Iran Sanctions, Accountability, and Divestment Act during a teleconference sponsored by the ABA Section of International Law.

They discussed amendments to the Iran Sanctions Act, the changes to Canada's regulations pursuant to the United Nations Act (Canada) and administrative practices in place to prevent prohibited exports from leaving Canada and transshipment via Canada. In addition, they discussed what non-US entities can and cannot do (under US law and Canadian law) with respect to Iran as a result of the new UN sanctions.
