The European Commission report on business insurance: what happens next?

November 13, 2007

Steptoe & Johnson’s EU insurance regulatory team invites you to a complimentary seminar via telephone and internet.

Date:  13 November 2007
Time:
4 pm to 5.15 pm (Brussels); 3 pm to 4.15 pm (London); 10 am to 11.15 am (New York)

Senior officials from the Competition Directorate-General of the Commission will discuss the recent report into business insurance. We expect a useful, informative and lively discussion on key issues including:

  • Coinsurance and the subscription market: what are the Commission’s concerns and what action is expected from the market?
  • Broker conflicts of interest and remuneration: what are the Commission’s proposals and what are their practical implications?
  • Block Exemption Regulation: is it necessary and what can the sector do to keep it?

We will be specifically asking the Commission speakers to elaborate on some of the more difficult points in the report, their thoughts on likely next steps and the expected timetable, and how insurers may respond and put forward their positions most effectively.

Guest speakers:
Seán Greenaway, DG Comp, European Commission, Brussels
Christoph Emsbach, DG Comp, European Commission, Brussels

Steptoe & Johnson moderators:
Guy Soussan and Philip Woolfson (Brussels) and Angus Rodger (London)
