Michael Vatis to Participate in Experts' Panel on the State Secrets Privilege

As a follow up to on his testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee, Michael Vatis will participate in an April 4 experts' panel sponsored by the American Constitution Society for Law and Policy.  Entitled "The State Secrets Privilege: Time for Reform," the panel will discuss the many legal and policy questions surrounding the state secrets privilege, including:  Is it being improperly invoked?  How can national security concerns be balanced with the need to preserve meaningful access to justice in our nation's courts?  What issues should Congress consider as it weighs bipartisan reform legislation, such as the State Secret Protection Act of 2008 in the House and a similar bill in the Senate?  There is no charge for this event.
