Mark Hulkower on White-Collar Crime and In-House Counsel

(A Steptoe-Sponsored Event)
February 17, 2005

On February 17, 2005, Mark Hulkower, head of Steptoe’s white-collar crime practice, will explain the increasingly complex issues that in-house counsel face in regards to white-collar crimes and ethics issues.

In-house counsel face increasing scrutiny for the advice they’ve given to clients, as well as for their compensation packages.  Mark Hulkower explains the do’s and don’ts for in-house attorneys in today’s criminal enforcement environment.

Ethics issues that he will address include the following:

  • Should in-house lawyers be held responsible for the alleged fraudulent conduct of corporate executives?
  • What constitutes criminal intent in the context of giving legal advice to your clients?
  • Should you simply say no when your boss issues you a big bonus?

Recent, high-profile, big-publicity cases will be discussed, as well as emerging trends and analysis.

The presentation will run from 5:30-6:30 p.m., with a reception immediately following from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

This event is being co-hosted by Lex Mundi and the Washington Metropolitan Association of Corporate Counsel America (WMACCA).
