EXIT POLL: A Post-Election Interpretation of the Results

Was there a voter mandate? If so, what did voters say and what will it mean as the new government begins the transition and forms in January?

In the wake of an historic election, Steptoe & Johnson invited prominent Democratic and Republican political strategists and government experts to discuss the early lessons from the election. Discussion topics covered, among others:

· Looking beyond the partisan composition, who is up, who is down,
where will the center of gravity fall in Congress?

· Expectations for committee ratios and musical chairs in the house
and Senate.

· A discussion of the external groups and constituencies that gained
power and those that will see their influence wane

· How will the new Congress and the new President work together?
