Transportation of Hazardous Materials (DOT, IMO)
Steptoe attorneys regularly provides compliance advice to clients regarding the transportation of hazardous materials under DOT HazMat regulations and International Maritime Organization (IMO) requirements, including the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code. We have successfully petitioned DOT for HazMat exemptions, negotiated settlements of HazMat enforcement actions, and obtained DOT and US Coast Guard interpretations on issues of concern to our clients. We have participated in rulemaking proceedings before the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), the US Coast Guard and other relevant federal agencies. We also have assisted clients on rail HazMat issues before the Bureau of Explosives.
