Karen J. Hartman-Tellez is an associate in the Phoenix office of Steptoe & Johnson LLP.  Her practice areas include media and constitutional law, American Indian law, and commercial litigation.  

Media and Constitutional Law
Ms. Hartman-Tellez's media practice emphasizes First Amendment concerns such as privacy and defamation issues, challenges to subpoenas of reporters and newsgathering organizations and access to government records and proceedings.  Her constitutional law practice also encompasses civil rights litigation, including representation of several community and voter advocacy groups in federal litigation to secure voting rights.

American Indian Law
Ms. Hartman-Tellez’s American Indian law practice includes a wide range of matters affecting tribes. She has provided advice on matters of tribal governance, membership and the adoption of tribal laws addressing numerous issues, and has appeared in tribal appellate court in both criminal and civil matters.
