Jon T. Neumann is a partner in Steptoe & Johnson LLP’s Litigation Department, where he focuses on complex litigation in federal and state courts throughout the country and in varied domestic and international arbitral forums. Mr. Neumann’s practice predominantly centers around litigation related to reinsurance, insurance coverage and bad faith, banking and financial services, and other complex commercial disputes.
Banking and Financial Services
Mr. Neumann helps clients to resolve financial services and banking disputes involving federal and state securities laws, contract claims, and the Uniform Commercial Code.
Complex Commercial Litigation
Mr. Neumann helps clients to resolve diverse, complex commercial disputes involving contract claims and business torts, as well as real estate and environmental matters.
Insurance Coverage and Bad Faith
Mr. Neumann helps insurers to resolve declaratory judgment actions and other civil litigation involving breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, bad faith, coverage, and punitive damage claims. Mr. Neumann's practice includes representing insurers in complex coverage disputes; class actions involving institutional bad faith claims, national insurance claim-handling programs and computerized evaluation tools; providing coordinating counsel services for the national defense of institutional claim-handling programs; offering counseling services to help insurers avoid litigation and minimize bad-faith exposure; and giving advice for managing an efficient and fair claim-handling operation.
Reinsurance
Mr. Neumann helps reinsurers and retrocessionaires to resolve complex disputes involving a broad range of issues, including actuarial modeling and other damage assessments, allocation, ratification, rescission, the duty of utmost good faith, underwriting, mergers and acquisitions, the purchase and sale of blocks of business, and other matters related to the retrocession of risk through reinsurance treaties and other risk-transfer arrangements.
