Nicholas Wallwork is a partner in the Phoenix office of Steptoe & Johnson LLP, where he is a member of the Technology, Litigation, and Regulatory & Industry Affairs Departments.
Mr. Wallwork’s broad civil litigation experience emphasizes complex and class action cases, including disputes involving technology and commercial matters, as well as environmental, toxic tort, and insurance coverage matters. He has regularly served as common or coordinating counsel in multi-party litigation.
Mr. Wallwork was recently appointed by Governor Napolitano and confirmed by the Arizona Senate as a member of the oversight board of Arizona’s Superfund program, the Water Quality Assurance Revolving Fund Advisory Board Committee. He previously was a senior member of one of Arizona’s largest law firms, where he was founding chair of both the Computerized Litigation Support Group and the Environmental Practice Group.
Mr. Wallwork is Past President of the State Bar of Arizona and a member of the National Association of Bar Presidents. He served two terms as a member of the Arizona Judicial Council, the administrative oversight body of the Arizona Court system chaired by the Chief Justice of the Arizona Supreme Court. A long-time elected member of the State Bar’s Board of Governors, he currently serves as Chair of the Bench-Bar Committee, Chair of the Appointments Committee and Chair of the Discipline Oversight Committee.
Recognized for his extensive knowledge in using technology to manage complex legal matters, Mr. Wallwork actively promotes practical use of technology by lawyers. With his strong interest in technology-related legal matters, he was Founding Chair of the State Bar’s Section of Internet, E-Commerce & Technology Law (the “E Section”), Chair of the Task Force on the Future of the Profession and a member of the Technology Task Force. He also is a past member of the Supreme Court of Arizona’s Commission on Technology. Founding chair of the ALI-ABA satellite program, The Internet for Practical Litigators, he has written and spoken extensively on technology and legal matters. His technology-related articles have appeared in The National Law Journal, the ABA Journal and Legal Economics. He also served as chair of the E Section’s first program, E-Commerce—The New Frontier.
Mr. Wallwork is a member of the American Law Institute. He received the State Bar’s Award for Outstanding Leadership and its Award for Outstanding Contribution to the State Bar. He is an Advocate & Fellow of the Arizona Foundation for Legal Services & Education and a Founding Benefactor of the Maricopa County Bar Foundation. He also is a member of the International Association of Defense Counsel and the American Arbitration Association.
