Jonathan C. Drimmer is a partner in the Washington office of Steptoe & Johnson LLP, where he is a member of the Litigation Department. Mr. Drimmer’s practice focuses on complex litigation and appeals, including international and white-collar cases. He has tried numerous cases over the span of his career, and litigated in state, federal and administrative courts a wide range of matters involving a spectrum of industries. His experience includes cases involving class actions, securities fraud, health care fraud, public corruption, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, professional malpractice, employment discrimination, RICO violations, deceptive trade practices, tax strategies, financial institutions, investment advisors, and complex financial products. Mr. Drimmer has engaged in extensive international litigation and discovery and has participated in appeals in nearly every circuit and the Supreme Court, arguing major civil and criminal cases in the 3rd, 5th, 6th, and 7th Circuits.
Before joining Steptoe, Mr. Drimmer served as Deputy Director for the Office of Special Investigations of the Criminal Division for the US Department of Justice, where he prosecuted and supervised cases involving war crimes and civil fraud. Mr. Drimmer was also a Bristow Fellow for the Office of the US Solicitor General and practiced at a large Washington, DC law firm.
Mr. Drimmer is an adjunct professor at the Georgetown University Law Center, where he has taught courses that have covered international war crimes, the Patriot Act, the Alien Tort Claims Act, looted artworks, terrorism-related crimes, the Foreign Sovereign Immunity Act, military tribunals, and irregular rendition. He is also a Lexis/Nexis contributing expert on international legal issues.
