Elizabeth M. Johnson is of counsel in the Chicago office of Steptoe & Johnson LLP, where she practices in the Litigation Department concentrating on commercial civil litigation, including class action and derivative litigation.

Prior to joining Steptoe, Ms. Johnson was in private practice as a senior commercial litigation associate in the Chicago office of an international firm, where she similarly focused her practice on complex civil litigation.  Her former practice included the successful settlement of a $30 million breach of contract and fraud suit for a client that manufactures medical equipment, and the negotiation of a settlement in a complicated computer systems fraud case.

Prior to entering private practice, Ms. Johnson gained extensive trial experience as an attorney for the US Army Judge Advocate General's Corps, where she served as a trial counsel, prosecuting military courts-martial, and as a litigation attorney for National Security Agency, where she assisted attorneys at the Department of Justice in the prosecution of espionage and other national-security related cases.  Her military decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal and the Army Commendation Medal.  She also received the National Intelligence Meritorious Unit Citation from the Director of Central Intelligence.
