Brooke L. Gaede is special counsel in the Washington office of Steptoe & Johnson LLP, where she is a member of the firm’s Regulatory & Industry Affairs Department.

Ms. Gaede’s practice focuses primarily on transportation law and litigation. She has extensive experience in commercial litigation involving the railroad industry. She has also worked on several large-scale private arbitrations involving commercial practices of railroads. Ms. Gaede has managed complex discovery proceedings, worked with fact and expert witnesses in trial preparation and at trial, and has substantial experience with motions practice. Ms. Gaede’s transportation law practice also involves regulatory matters before the Surface Transportation Board, primarily on issues relating to railroad rates and competitive practices.

Ms. Gaede’s practice also involves environmental and natural resources law and litigation. Her litigation experience encompasses a variety of issues, including compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act, private cost recovery under CERCLA, compliance with federal administrative regulations, and other civil litigation.
