Susan R. Gihring is an associate in the Washington office of Steptoe & Johnson LLP, where she is a member of the International Department. Ms. Gihring practices primarily in international trade and immigration law. In addition to her experience with WTO matters, Ms. Gihring has worked on countervailing duty cases before the Department of Commerce and antidumping cases before the International Trade Commission.
In addition, Ms. Gihring has worked in the area of trademark infringement actions, under Section 337, before the International Trade Commission. She also has provided counseling and advocacy in connection with political asylum claims before the Immigration & Naturalization Service.
While attending the University of Chicago School of Law, Ms. Gihring served as the Articles Editor of the Chicago Journal of International Law and Co-Chair of the LL.M. program for the International Law Society. In addition, Ms. Gihring worked as Research Assistant to Professors Adrian Vermeule and Jill Hasday.
During her undergraduate academic career, Ms. Gihring obtained a background in her chosen area of law through her studies in International Relations. Pursuing a minor in German, in which she is now fluent, Ms. Gihring also studied abroad in the spring of 1997 at the Institute of European Studies, Freiberg in Breisgau, Germany.
