Daniel Girdwood is an associate in the Washington office of Steptoe & Johnson LLP, where he is a member of the Intellectual Property group.
Mr. Girdwood’s practice focuses on the enforcement and building of patent portfolios involving electronics, telecommunications, software, automotive and motorcycle parts, medical devices, and imaging platforms. He has successfully appealed cases before the US Patent and Trademark Office’s Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences and has litigated patent matters in federal courts throughout the country.
Mr. Girdwood served as a judicial clerk with the Honorable Randall R. Rader, Circuit Judge, on the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Mr. Girdwood also worked as a patent agent before obtaining his J.D.
Prior to pursuing his legal career, Mr. Girdwood spent several years with the National Security Agency where he developed broadband front-end systems using packetized data transmission protocols, and with Federal Mogul Corporation where he developed engine bearing manufacturing lines.
