Mr. Russotto is a partner in the Brussels office of Steptoe & Johnson LLP, where he is a member of the Corporate, Securities and Finance practice group. He advises US, European, and Asian clients across a broad range of matters involving European Community (EC) law. Mr. Russotto's practice focuses primarily on competition law, trade, financial services (with an emphasis on banking), environmental regulation, and the legal issues encountered by the EU's high-technology industries, such as pharmaceuticals and life sciences, medical devices, and telecommunications. Mr. Russotto has recently been advising clients on the WTO litigation challenges to the EC's regulatory regime for genetically modified organisms. Mr. Russotto assists clients with policy advice and strategic representation before the various Directorates of the EC Commission.
Mr. Russotto entered the legal profession as counsel for the Department of Justice in the Canton of Vaud, Switzerland. Thereafter, he was legal counsel for Nestle at its headquarters in Vevey, Switzerland. He has also practiced for US law firms in Chicago, Boston, and Brussels. He is a member of the Brussels Bar.
From 1982 to 1995, Mr. Russotto was chair of the EC Competition Policy Subcommittee of the American Chamber of Commerce in Brussels. He also chairs the Swiss EU Committee of the Swiss Chamber of Commerce for Belgium and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. He has organized and participated in numerous seminars on the European Community, both in connection with these committees and on behalf of individual clients. He is a frequent commentator on legal and regulatory policy issues within the EU.
