Roger W. Parkhurst is a partner in the Washington office of Steptoe & Johnson LLP, where he is a member of the Intellectual Property group, concentrating on patent, trademark, trade dress, and unfair competition litigation.
For over 30 years, Mr. Parkhurst has litigated a variety of intellectual property disputes, including patent, trademark, copyright, and trade dress infringement allegations, and patent/antitrust claims. Mr. Parkhurst also has successfully litigated important patent interferences before the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences, and trademark opposition/cancellation proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, in the US PTO.
Mr. Parkhurst has advised an array of enterprises on policies and procedures for identifying, evaluating, and protecting their intellectual property, and has written hundreds of patent infringement/validity opinions.
Mr. Parkhurst is recognized by his peers as a leading member of the intellectual property bar. He was elected president of the American Intellectual Property Association for the 2001-2002 term. Mr. Parkhurst has been selected by his peers continuously since 2001 for inclusion in the Patent Law section of the International Who’s Who of Business Lawyers. He also has acted as an expert witness in patent/antitrust cases and patent infringement cases. He is frequently called upon to speak about topics relating to intellectual property, and presented mock Markman hearings and closing arguments at PLI in New York, annually 2000-2005.
Mr. Parkhurst is admitted to practice before the US Supreme Court, the US Courts of Appeals for the Federal, Third, and Fourth Circuits, and in the US District Courts for the District of Columbia, Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia, and Western District of New York.
