Scott D. Watkins is of counsel in the Washington office of Steptoe & Johnson LLP, where he is a member of the Intellectual Property group. His practice focuses on the protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights, with particular emphasis in patent issues in the electrical, mechanical, and computer arts.
Mr. Watkins counsels clients in a variety of industries on all aspects of patent practice, including prosecution of patent and trademark applications in the US Patent and Trademark Office, and strategies for enforcing patents. His experience in defensive aspects of patent practice includes investigating and analyzing hundreds of US patents, from single-patent disputes to large corporate portfolios. He has litigated in patent, copyright, and trade-secret actions before federal courts and the US Patent Board of Appeals and Inferences.
Mr. Watkins has experience in a variety of technical areas, including telecommunications, optics, nuclear medicine, circuit design, and semiconductor fabrication.
