Seong Kim is a partner in the Litigation and International Departments of Steptoe & Johnson LLP, and a member of the Intellectual Property group. Prior to joining Steptoe, Mr. Kim was a partner at a prominent Los Angeles law firm.
Mr. Kim is a trial lawyer who handles commercial and intellectual property litigation and arbitration matters. He has obtained judgments and settlements totaling several hundred million dollars for his clients. Even when representing defendants, Mr. Kim has been able to “turn the table” by not only obtaining defense verdicts for his clients but also by obtaining positive money judgments against the parties that sued. Some of the largest companies around the world have turned to Mr. Kim to protect their interests.
Mr. Kim has lectured at various trial technique seminars, including for the Orange County Bar Association and the NAPABA. He also has been featured and quoted in various publications including the Los Angeles Times, Los Angeles Daily Journal, and the Los Angeles Business Journal.

- Represented the maker of 7 for All Mankind™ jeans against claims brought by the makers of Citizens of Humanity™ jeans.
- Represented one of the largest automobile manufacturers in connection with a software licensing dispute.
- Represented one of the largest software companies in connection with a dispute involving software maintenance contract.
- Represented one of the largest architectural firms in connection with a copyright infringement claim.
- Obtained a defense verdict for a prominent tool company against trade dress infringement and false advertising claims brought by a competitor.
- Represented a prominent tool company in connection with a $100 million licensing dispute.
- Represented a collection of hedge funds to recover their $1 billion dollar investment in an internet incubator company.
- Obtained a multi-million dollar judgment for the producer of Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.
- Obtained a multi-million verdict against the inventors of the Ab-Roller® exercise product.
- Obtained a multi-million dollar settlement for clients in bad faith lawsuits brought against some of the largest insurance companies.
