Mark A. Neubauer is a partner in the Century City office of Steptoe & Johnson LLP, where he practices securities, antitrust, entertainment, employment, business, real estate, and commercial law. His jury trial experience includes both state and federal courts. Mr. Neubauer’s clients include large corporations such as Johnson & Johnson, Komatsu Forklift USA, Inc., Cummins Cal Pacific, Kyocera Mita America, Inc., John Labatt Company, and City of Hope Medical Group. Over 30 years, he has dealt with a wide range of legal issues, including unfair competition and other business torts and statutory claims.

Mr. Neubauer has been selected by his peers for a host of leadership positions in the bar, both locally and nationally. He is currently vice-chair of the American Bar Association’s Standing Committee on Publishing Oversight and co-chair of the ABA’s Litigation Section’s CLE Oversight Committee. In 2006, he served as co-chair of the Litigation Section’s Annual Meeting and sat on the Board of Editors of the ABA Journal. He previously was Editor-in-Chief of the ABA’s Litigation Journal, a member of the Section’s Governing Council, and director of its publications. In addition, he was the Chair, Vice-Chair, and Treasurer of the Litigation Section of the State Bar of California. He also is active in the Association of Business Trial Lawyers (ABTL), and formerly served as its President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer, a member of its Board of Governors, and Editor of the ABTL Report. Mr. Neubauer has been repeatedly recognized by his peers for his jury trial skills. He has been designated several times to give closing argument at the annual mock jury trial at the Association of Business Trial Lawyers’ Annual Meeting and in 2008-10 was picked as one of the panel of trial lawyers to demonstrate trial skills at the ABA Litigation Section’s prestigious Litigation Institute for Trial Training. Mr. Neubauer is a former Assistant Vice President and Trustee of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, where he also has participated on its Judicial Appointments Committee. He also served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Los Angeles County Bar Foundation.

Mr. Neubauer recently received the ACLU Foundation’s Pro Bono Civil Rights Award in recognition of his work for the Plaintiffs in the Harris v. Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors lawsuit, in which the Ninth Circuit upheld a preliminary injunction prohibiting the County of Los Angeles from reducing the hospital services available to the County’s indigent residents at County-USC Medical Center and from closing the famous Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center. He is listed in the publication The Best Lawyers in America as one of the top litigators and in the Super Lawyers list of best lawyers in Southern California.

A recognized authority in civil litigation, Mr. Neubauer has authored or co-authored more than a dozen articles on trial and trial practice including the treatises, The Litigation Manual (ABA Press 1999), California Civil Discovery Practice (1998), and California Civil Procedure Before Trial (1990).
