Richard Diamond is of counsel in the Washington office of Steptoe & Johnson LLP. He joined Steptoe & Johnson LLP in 1974, where he was a partner and practiced antitrust and international trade law for 12 years. In 1985 Richard joined the faculty at Georgetown Law School and became of counsel at Steptoe & Johnson LLP. Currently, Richard is Professor of Law at Georgetown University, where he writes and teaches in areas relating to international trade law and corporate law.
Mr. Diamond is highly recognized for his experience in international trade law, both in the US regulatory setting and in the context of the international trade agreement established by GATT and the WTO. He was a prime architect of the development of the legal and economic case in the 1991-94 softwood lumber litigation before the Department of Commerce and the US-Canadian review panels. Recently Mr. Diamond has been involved in providing legal advice in connection with the WTO case filed by Canada against Brazilian subsidies for regional jet aircraft.
